A safety wall that was on the verge of completion caved-in on Uttarkashi Road near Chamba due to the substandard material being used in the construction.
According to the locals the safety wall being constructed by the the executing agency, Chamba Nagar Panchayat collapsed early on Tuesday morning.
The locals allege that use of substandard construction material is the main cause for the collapse of the wall which was in the final stages of construction.
local resident Chandi Prasad said that if the executing agency had taken cognisance of the substandard material being used for the construction then the damage to safety wall could have been avoided.
The locals have demanded punitive action against the contractor and threatened to launch an agitation if quality of work is not ensured in reconstruction of the wall here.
When contacted the executive officer of Chamba Nagar Panchayat said that the safety wall had caved in due to rainwater.
He further said that the payment to the contractor has been withheld and he has been asked to reconstruct the wall without any delay.
