Under construction entrance to MCD compound demolished

Not long after its construction was started, the main entrance to Municipal Corporation of Dehradun compound was demolished by the corporation on Tuesday. Officials claimed that the construction was demolished midway to incorporate an illuminated sign board in the structure which was not part of the earlier structural design.

Meanwhile, the demolition of the under-construction structure caused some inconvenience to visitors to the MCD as they climbed over the rubble to get in while others used the alternate entrance to the corporation compound.

Speaking of the matter, the additional commissioner of Dehradun, Neeraj Joshi said that the under construction entrance was demolished for a reason. He said, “The structure of the gate has been demolished as earlier the plan was to construct the gate in a normal manner with Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) but the new plan is to change the look and construct it with some changes.”

When asked about the apparent carelessness in planning the design of the entrance he said, “We all do make mistakes and the idea of making the gate in another manner came to us after the construction was started which is our fault. But we will take care to resolve it soon.”

He elaborated, “The new aspect of the entrance will be a steel frame signboard displaying the name of ‘Municipal Corporation of Dehradun’. It will also be illuminated so that the place can be prominently visible in the night too. Also, the structure of the gate will be made strong enough with proper RCC,” he added.
