Uncertainty over SDS varsity's BEd final exam

Negligence on the part of the self-financed BEd colleges and the Sri Dev Suman University would prove costly to the future of around 2,600 students. The BEd colleges had given admission to the students, but now there is uncertainty about the final examinations. The students are confused. In the session of 2013-14, Sri Dev Suman University had given admission to students through entrance examination to 26 self-financed BEd colleges. On the State quota seats, the entrance was done through counseling but for management quota seats, the university had given cut-off merit list to the colleges.

Observers said the college managements should have given admission to students on the basis of merit list or by holding combined entrance examinations. “But this did not happen. The wilfulness of the colleges is now proving  costly  to the students. The University had sought entrance list from the colleges, which they provided  in December but a lot of problems were found in these lists,” an observer said.

Notably, on the direction of the Secretary, Higher Education, the university administration forwarded the records of all colleges to the Government on January 5. But so far, no decision has been taken on the matter. In January, the 200-day academic session of the BEd was completed, but the university has not been able to announce the examination schedule.

Registrar Hansraj Bisht said that if the self-financed colleges had provided the information on time the examinations would not have been delayed. Now the matter is lying with the Secretary, Higher Education. The examination programme would be announced as soon as directions are received from the Government administration, he added.
