Irrespective of political upheaval in the State triggered by the rebellion of nine Congress MlAs which included the Minister of Medical Education Harak Singh Rawat, the officials of Doon Medical College (DMC) here are keeping their fingers crossed for the team of Medical Council of India (MCI) to arrive for re-inspection of the college. The fate of the college is dependent on the approval of MCI which will issue the all important letter of Permission (lOP) on the basis of the report of the team.
The imposition of President’s rule in the state on Sunday and policy paralysis in the state triggered by rebellion inside the ruling Congress on last Friday has jolted the officials of the DMC who are working tirelessly for months together to get their act together for getting the lOP from the MCI. When contacted the Principal of DMC, Dr Pradeep Bharati Gupta said that the college is all geared up the visit of MCI and the recent events in the state have no bearing on the preparations. He said that the DMC has purchased all necessary equipments and done required appointment of faculty.
The college Principal has also imposed a ban on leaves of all faculty members and other staff members in wake of ensuing inspection of MCI. Dr Gupta sounded confident about the proposed visit and hoped that the college would be able to get the lOP from the MCI.
It is worth mentioning here that a team of MCI which had visited the college and associated hospital of DMC on January 5 and 6 had listed many shortcomings in facilities and asked the college authorities to get them rectified soon. In their disposition before the MCI in a hearing held on February 12, the authorities of DMC had requested for one month’s time from MCI to remove the shortcomings listed by it. The apex body granted this time and scheduled the re- inspection after third week of March.
The DMC is coming up different locations of the city. The Doon hospital and Doon women hospital are now associated hospital of DMC. A multi story Out Patient Department (OPD) of the Medical College is being constructed near Tehsil Chowk in the city.
The administrative and academic buildings of the college are constructed at Dehra Khas area located in Patel Nagar. The emphasis of the authorities is to complete the construction and refurbishing works in the academic and administrative blocks before the MCI visit. The Uttar Pradesh Nirman Nigam limited is the agency entrusted with the task of construction of building of the DMC.
