UlB elections: HC to pronounce judgement on Friday

Published on:

Hearing continued throughout the day in the High Court on the petitions filed regarding the Urban local Body elections and those challenging the delimitation of UlBs. The high court reserved its judgement and is likely to pronounce it on Friday.

In the recent past, the advocate general of Uttarakhand, SN Babulkar had requested the high court to dispose the petitions soon. Acknowledging the request, the high court had fixed Thursday for hearing on the petitions. The advocate general informed the court that on May 3 the term of majority of the urban local bodies in the state is coming to an end. Considering this, the state government had completed all preparations for holding the elections in the urban local bodies soon. The case was taken up for hearing by the single bench of justice Sudhanshu Dhulia.

It is pertinent to mention here that in addition to petitions filed in the high court challenging the delimitation of urban local bocies, the state election commission had also filed a petition earlier this year in the high court stating that the Uttarakhand government was not inclined to conduct the urban local body elections within the fixed time frame.
