Dhanaulty, Auli and a few other high altitude places located in the higher reaches across the mountainous parts of the State received snowfall while Dehradun, Mussoorie and some other places received light rainfall on Friday evening. The Met officials attributed this spell of snow/rain to western disturbances.
However, to the disappointment of the tourists now camping in the queen of hills Mussoorie, the season's maiden snowfall has remained elusive so far despite possibilities having brightened several times in the past one month or so. The Uttarakhand Meteorological Centre has forecast dry weather across the State on Saturday.
In Dehradun, things changed drastically towards the afternoon when clouds gathered and drizzling ensued.
Met director Dehradun Bikram Singh said that the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 22.2ºC and 9.1ºC in Dehradun while 12.3ºC and 4.8ºC in Tehri, 12.6ºC and 1.9ºC in Mukteshwar and 24.0 and 5.8ºC in Pantnagar on Friday. Singh said that weather forecast for Dehradun on Saturday is mainly clear sky. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 22ºC and 07ºC respectively in Dehradun on Saturday. The weather forecast for Uttarakhand is dry weather. Shallow fog/mist is likely to appear in the plains and ground frost might occur at isolated places in the hills on Saturday, he added.
