Taking a serious view of the mob violence in Haryana and Punjab and also in some areas of Delhi on Friday following the conviction of Dera Saccha Sauda head Baba Ram Rahim Gurmeet Singh in a rape case by the CBI court,  Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat  on Saturday asked the Chief Secretary and the DGP to be alert to prevent any  untoward incident in the State.

The Chief Minister also asked the police heads of the bordering districts to be  extra vigilant. Besides,  the local intelligence units (lIU)  have also been asked to be watchful especially as the CBI court which convicted the Dera chief on Friday would pronounce the quantum of sentence on Monday.

TS Rawat  said that the police and the administration must not lower their guard for the next  three- four days in view of the volatility of the situation. He stressed that while the law-enforcing forces must act sensitively in dealing with the people, nobody should be allowed to take law into his hands.

The bus services between Dehradun and Chandigarh remained disrupted on Saturday too in view of the violence rocking Haryana and Punjab.

The DGP apprised the Chief Minister during the meeting that PAC has been deployed as part of extra precautionary  measures.

The district police heads have been told to clamp section 144 in the bordering areas and be in touch with the lIU.

Meanwhile, police have started checking vehicles in the bordering districts, especially Haridwar, Dehradun and Udham Singh Nagar.
