Election drawing near, Uttarakhanad Kranti Dal is all set to launch Sankhnad Yatra from June 1 to 16 to ask the people of the state to show doors to both Congress and BJP and to embrace a party truly committed to the welfare of the state. The yatra would be launched in two phases. In the first phase, it would cover all the districts of Garhwal region from June 1 to 7.. The second phase would cover Kumaon region from June 9 to 16. It would start from Dehradun where the senior leaders of the party will participate. The regional party made it clear that it would contest all the 70 seats of the State Assembly in the upcoming Assembly election on its own.
During the yatra, the people would be asked questions on what they have got over 16 years since the state came up from the duopoly of Congress and BJP.
Taking to the media persons at district headquarters in Pauri, Uttarakhand Kranti Dal central committee spokesmen Suresh Juyal said that the yatra would be part of the Uttarakhand Bachao, Uttarakhand Basaoo movement. “We would ask the people about what they have got while saddling the two parties in power by turns over the past 16 years. The history of the people’s struggle and sacrifice for the creation of the state is still vivid in the collective mind. We would not allow it to go waste,” he said.
Juyal stressed that his party would put up candidates in all the 70 seats of the state Assembly. “ If there is an agreement with the other regional parties or fronts they would have to fight under the banner of UKD,” he said.
Juyal further said that the yatra will reach Kotdwar on June 1, Satpuli on June 2 and Pauri on June 3. It would arrive at Srinagar the same day and would then move to Rudraprayag district. “At Pauri, the party will stage a rally during which a number of leaders and workers of national parties will join UKD. Membership drive would also be launched during the yatra,” he added.
District president of the party Veer Pratap Singh said that the national parties have not just been embroiled in scores of scams but have chosen to play ball game with the emotive demand Gairsain being declared as the capital of the state. He further said that over the past 16 years since the creation of Uttarakhand, nearly 22 lakh people have left the mountainous districts of the state which have been vegetating developmentally.
