A young IAS officer, Akshat Gupta, who was recently transferred from the post of Udham Singh Nagar District Magistrate to Dehradun due to ongoing political crisis, died in Noida reportedly due to cardiac arrest on Sunday evening. This was confirmed by State Chief Secretary Shatrughna Singh while talking to media persons.

It would be pertinent to mention here that Cabinet Minister Yashpal Arya was upset at the declaration of Pradeep Tamta as Congress candidate for Rajya Sabha seat from Uttarakhand. Thereafter he went to Delhi as well. Meanwhile, the  State Government transferred Akshat Gupta to be replaced by Brajesh Sant though Sant did not join due to his personal  reasons.

Due to the fluid situation Gupta was not relieved from the post of DM and had gone to his house in Noida. On Sunday he along with his family members had gone to a mall in Noida where he reportedly suffered a heart attack. Though he was taken to a hospital for treatment, Gupta breathed his last during treatment.

Gupta is survived by his wife, IPS officer Riddhim Agrawal, and two children. In the past he had served as the District Magistrate of Uttarkashi, Nainital and Almora too among his various postings. Gupta will be cremated on Monday at Noida.
