Uttarakhand High Court has granted bail to the former Pauri MlA and Pauri Nagar Palika chairman Yashpal Benam on Monday. The police had produced charge sheet against Yashpal Benam, Sarita Negi and Ashok Bisht under section 332 and 504 of the Indian Penal Code. It is pertinent to mention that the additional district session judge Kotdwar had rejected the bail plea of Benam and two other accused on August 18. Prior to this, the chief judicial magistrate had rejected the bail application of the trio on August 10.
Notably, Pauri Kotwali police had submitted charge- sheet against the trio on June 15. The trio had been accused of assaulting or using criminal force to a deter public servant from discharging his duty. The police had lodged the case based on the report filed by the district excise officer Prabha Shanker Mishra.
The report had been lodged against them on April 24 after media had raised a hue and cry over the police sitting on it.
