U'khand Cong embarks on Vikas Yatra to blunt BJP's 'Parivartan'

To counter the wave for change supposedly being created by BJP's Parivartan Yatra, now crisscrossing the State, the Uttarakhand Congress has embarked on its Satat Vikas Sankalp Yatra (consistent development and pledge march) at Khanpur Assembly constituency in Haridwar district on Saturday, stressing on the need to keep up with the pace of development the State has been seeing under the Congress rule.

Earlier, the yatra was supposed to be launched on November 12. But it was deferred at the behest of Chief Minister Harish Rawat to avoid confrontation with the BJP whose Parivartan Yatra was to be flagged off a day after on November 13.

Taking a swipe at the BJP, Rawat said while addressing those who gathered on the occasion of the start of his party's yatra that the people of Uttarakhand are smart enough not be enmeshed in the net of gimmickry spread out by BJP. "They are intelligent enough to analyse things for themselves. All must be wary of the saffron camp's sustained attempts to vitiate the political atmosphere of the State. I for one would not allow them to succeed in their nefarious design," he said, adding that he was sure that the people would bring them back to power on account of the development the Congress Government.

"They would not repeat the blunder they committed during the general election-2014," he said.

Without directly mentioning the current cash crisis, the CM said that the people had been gravely suffering because of a recent move of the Centre. "Do you think the Centre has done the right thing by plunging you in such a serious crisisIJ Things were effected in haste, sans any planning," he said.

Harking back to his favourite theme of placating women, he said that it was the women who saved money to help the families tide over unforeseen challenges. "But now, they are helpless too," CM said.
