U'khand CM pens down sugarcane farmers' plight

In another letter, the CM apprised PM Modi about the problems being faced by sugarcane farmers as well. He requested that in order to solve the problem of sugarcane farmers, a special package of Rs500 crore must be given.

In his letter, the CM said that the state of sugar mills is pitiable since there is a major gap between the cost of producing a bag of sugar and the price in the market. Due to this, the sugarcane farmers are also not being paid on time.

Owing to this, the State Government has introduced relaxation in commission to sugarcane committee, end of fee to mandi committee on Baigas as well as entry fee have been called off.

In the crushing season 2014-15, the State sugar mills have crushed 271.58 lakh quintal of sugar till March 7 this year. Out of the pending Rs752.58 crore pending amount for the sugarcane, Rs263.54 crore have been paid. The amount of Rs489.98 crore is still pending.
