UKD wants Gairsain to be made State capital

Published on:

Uttarakhand Kranti Dal  acting president Pankaj Viyas demanded that the State Government should declare Gairsain as the permanent capital of Uttarakhand immediately. The party is not in favor of making  Gairsain a summer or a winter capital. “The  people  are also  with us on this emotive issue. However, BJP and Congress have befooled them,” he  said.

Referring  to corruption reigning in the  state, he said that  things have  turned  grimmer since   Uttarakhand had  come up as a  state. “This  is  a reality  we  can hardly  deny,” he said, adding that regrettably, the people  are now  saying  that they  were much  better off when  the present state  was part of Uttar Pradesh.

Dwelling on the excise  scam, Viyas said that the Chief Minister Harish Rawat should resign.

“Besides, we want the state government to come up a  white paper on the  disaster scam. Besides, a CBI inquiry  should be  ordered  to fix responsibility for fiddling with the  momentous disaster. The report on the scam submitted by  the chief secretary is  a sham. The people have  every right to know what had happened  with the  funds that had come from across the country and abroad for the deluge-  ravaged people and how the senior officials squandered away the public money during those  critical days on food they had gorged and the like,” he said.

Tearing into BJP and Congress, he said both have  take  their turns  to  ruin the state. “No development is happening here. Only pompous announcements are being made to beguile the people,” he said.

Viyas said that UKD is not in favor  of giving facility and benefits by way of reservation  to the indentified statehood activists. “Things started this way when   N D Tiwari was the Chief  Minister. This is a divisive  game aside from the fact  that  the  people who had suffered to have Uttarakhand carved out  of UP are nowhere in the picture as far as the proposed governmental largesse is  concerned. They do not demand anything either. It was a mass movement,” he added.
