Members of the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal headed by Trivendra Singh Panwar staged a demonstration demanding removal of stone crushers from Maletha. The UKD members reached the idol of Indramani Badoni near the Clock Tower on Tuesday morning to demonstrate against the State Government.
Speaking at the demonstration the party chief averred that the State Government was not cancelling the approval to the stone crushers at Maletha in order to facilitate benefit to the owners of the stone crushers. The State Government had earlier assured the protesting people of Maletha that the clearance to the stone crushers there would be withdrawn but with no action being taken against these stone crushers by the government so far the people of the mountainous areas are feeling cheated, he said.
The party vice president latafat Hussain said that at a time when the condition of agriculture is deteriorating in the mountainous regions, the State Government is facilitating works that will destroy the remaining agricultural lands in the mountains.
The party’s media in-charge Manmohan lakhera said that in stead of preserving the fertile soil of Maletha, the Congress-led State Government appears to be bent upon ruining the productive land of this area. The people of Maletha have been agitating for some time now against the operation of stone crushers and to protect the agricultural land in the area but in stead of removing the stone crushers, the State Government has continued to exploit the locals, he said.
