The two prominent factions of the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal have criticised the decision of the State Government to hold a Vidhan Sabha session at Gairsain. leaders of the UKD Panwar faction and Airy faction have said that holding an Assembly session at Gairsain amounts to a waste of resources which should be utilised on developing Gairsain and making it the State capital.

The party faction headed by Trivendra Singh Panwar has decided to stage a day long demonstration here on Friday against what it has termed as unnecessary expenditure on holding the Vidhan Sabha session at Gairsain. At a meeting held in the party office on Wednesday, it was decided that the party will stage a protest on the Gairsain and other issues. According to Panwar, the failure of the State Government to construct an Assembly building at Gairsain a year after its foundation was laid, displays the difference between the talk and action of the Congress. "The Government headed by Chief Minister Harish Rawat should either declare Gairsain as the permanent capital of Uttarakhand or stop holding the Vidhan Sabha session in tents at Gairsain," he said.

UKD (P) vice-president latafat Hussain said that observance of double standards had prevented Gairsain from being made the permanent capital of the State more than a decade after the creation of Uttarakhand.

The party general secretary Manmohan lakhera said that the party believes that the Congress-led State Government is playing with the emotions of those living in the mountainous areas of Uttarakhand by wasting crores of rupees on displaying its "affection" towards Gairsain. last year, under the leadership of Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna the State Government had spent crores of rupees on the foundation laying ceremony and organising an Assembly session at Gairsain.

Head of the UKD Airy faction, Kashi Singh Airy has also said that simply organising Assembly sessions at Gairsain in temporary structures will not suffice without facilitating infrastructural development and declaration of Gairsain as the State capital.
