In a significant step towards meeting its own power requirement and subsequently reducing dependence on the central pool or other states, the Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam limited (UJVNl) has achieved record power generation at Sharda hydro power house (Khatima hydro power project) in September.

UJVNl managing director SN Verma said that new record in power generation on a day  in September marks an important achievement for the department.

The 41.40 megawatt power unit of Khatima hydropower project based in Udham Singh Nagar district has achieved record power generation on September 17 as compared to any previous day of any year since the unit was set up in 1955. On September 17 this year, this unit has generated power of 1.033 million units. On September 16, 2017, this power unit had generated power of1.008 million units.

Verma said that three machines having each of 13.07 megawatt capacity were set up in this power project in 1955. The power generating capacity of these machines had deceased by upto nine mega unit per machine due to its continued service of around 60 years, he said, adding that due to renovation, modernisation and upgradation of these machines recently, power generating capacity has increased by 10 per cent. Each of these three machines is now generating power of 14 mega watt on an average daily, he informed.

Verma further said that the feat has been made possible by the effective monitoring and efficient operation and maintenance of power units.  He thanked all the staffers for the achievement.
