Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission (UERC) chairman Subhash Kumar met the Chief Minister Harish Rawat on Tuesday and handed over the Power Award-2016, which Uttarakhand had recently received in recognition of its achievement to keep electricity tariff lowest among 16 States at Bijapur Guest House.

Kumar apprised that Uttarkhand power tariff is lowest in 16 States. In recognition of this feat, Independent Power Producers Association of India (IPPAI) has awarded the State in Goa recently, he stated.

Appreciating UERC, CM Rawat expressed hope that the Commission would make arrangement of MoU with other States on a low rate. He further said in Uttarakhand having low electricity tariff is helping them to create congenial environment for industrial development.

However, he stressed on making fool-proof arrangement to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply. There is need to promote electricity related projects in the state involving the locals, he said.

Kumar apprised the domestic power tariff is Rs3.55 per unit in the State while for agriculture, the tariff is Rs1.62 per unit and for industries, the price is Rs5.40 per unit.

“In Himachal Pradesh, they purchase power @ Rs2.40 per unit and sell it @ Rs5.38 per unit while Uttarakhand purchases power @ Rs2.83 per unit and sell @ Rs4.70 per unit only,” he said, adding that UERC is giving emphasis on MoU for electricity purchase at lower rates.
