A woman and her child died on the spot while the woman’s husband died later during treatment following the collapse of a two-storey kutcha home in Pali village of Gaja Tehsil in Tehri district on Monday morning.

According to officials, members of a family of Nepal natives were asleep in their double storey kutcha home in Pali village when at about 4 am the home structure collapsed.

Buried by the debris, 32-year old Shanti Devi and her three-year old daughter Sumitra were reported to have died on the spot while Shanti’s husband 45-year old Ram Prasad died later during treatment at the Narendranagar hospital.

The incident which wiped out a three-member family has cast a pall of gloom in the village especially due to the manner in which they died.

Since the mishap occurred in the wee hours of Monday when the family is presumed to have been asleep, the victims did not even get the chance to attempt saving themselves.

Receiving information about the structure collapse, the sub divisional magistrate, Narendranagar, lakshmiram Chauhan and other officials also arrived at the scene of the mishap.

It was stated that Ram Prasad had been living in the Pali village working as a mason for about a year and a half now.
