Weak and damaged boundary walls of the DAV (PG) College led to four theft cases occurring in the Department of Zoology in the past one month. Even deployment of two sections of PAC jawans and establishment of police post by the district police in the college campus seem to have failed to instill fear in the minds of the thieves.
Meanwhile, Dehradun police arrested two thieves and recovered stolen science laboratory equipments from their custody on Monday. Notably, around 30,000 students are pursuing various Bachelor and Post Graduate courses in the college.
Dalanwala police station in-charge, inspector Anil Joshi said that four minors and two kanwadias were involved in the four theft cases reported in the past one month in the college. Police claimed that these kanwadias were committing thefts in the science department with the help of four minors. According to him, weak and damaged boundary wall of this college helped the thieves. “Moreover, police force not being allowed to move in the backside areas of the campus made the place all the more vulnerable. To be precise, this is where the thefts occurred,” he added.
He further said that the college administration had informed police about two theft cases on July 22 and August 1 wherein thieves had stone science laboratory equipments from the department of Zoology. Taking cognisance of the complaints, a case under appropriate sections of IPC was registered against unidentified persons in the Dalanwala police station. A team was formed and search began for the accused.
Acting on a tip- off, police raided the shop of a scrap dealer at Chuna Bhatta, Raipur on Sunday night and recovered stolen science- related equipments. Police arrested the scrap dealer Ranjeet and investigation, revealed that four minor thieves were involved. Based on interrogation of Ranjeet, police also arrested a minor for his alleged involvement in these theft cases. Police recovered stolen science equipments estimated to be worth around Rs 1.66 lakh against the current market prices. Four other accused are still absconding and the police teams are trying to nab them, Joshi said. Some science equipments are yet to be recovered from the thieves, he added. The accused Ranjeet was sent to Suddhowala jail after being produced in the court while the minor was placed in a juvenile correction home, he added.
