Two persons were killed and 14 persons were injured when the tempo they were travelling in was hit by a truck in lalkuan. The 108 emergency ambulance was unable to reach the accident site on time due to which the locals and the police transported the injured to the Sushila Tiwari hospital.
About a dozen persons were aboard the tempo when the driver of a truck coming from the direction of Haldwani at about 1:30 pm hit the passenger vehicle while trying to overtake a vehicle wrongly. The locals helped rescue passengers trapped in the mangled tempo after the accident. According to eyewitnesses, the truck hit the tempo while trying to overtake another truck wrongly. A total of 16 persons were injured in the mishap of whom two persons died during treatment. The injured were transported to the Sushila Tiwari hospital in Haldwani were 14 of them are being treated. According to hospital sources, of the injured, three have been kept in the ICU as their condition is critical. The locals have questioned the failure of ambulances to reach the site after being informed about the mishap.
