A two-day workshop began at the Uttarakhand Space Application Centre (USAC) in the use of space technology for the audit personnel of Accountants General, Uttarakhand (Audit) here on Thursday. During the workshop, the audit personnel will be provided information about remote sensing and geographic information system (GIS) and trained on their use.
Speaking at the inauguration of the programme, the USAC director professor MPS Bisht said that in the present times, India has built itself a separate identity in space technology in the international community.
Considering the importance of space technology, it is now vital for personnel of all linear departments to be trained in remote sensing and GIS. Further, this is also being included as an important subject in the curriculum of students. The aim of the workshop at USACS is to train the audit staff in remote sensing and GIS which will prove useful in auditing works. He said that with basic knowledge of remote sensing and GIS, it becomes easier to find questions related to technical equipment, satellite data, software and other aspects while conducting audit in scientific and survey institutions.
He also said that space technology should be integrated with the planning and developmental works in the state so as to ensure planned development.
It is probably for the first time here that audit personnel are being trained in space technology as per per their requirements, he added.
later, Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) senior scientist Anil Kumar informed the participants in detail about remote sensing, GIS, photometry and GIS software. He also informed about the various uses of these technologies. He cited the example of other states where remote sensing and GIS are being used in various works including cadastral mapping, urban planning, solid waste management, road information centre and other works. USAC scientist Sushma Gairola, Asha Thapliyal, Neelam Rawat and Shashank lingwal also addressed the participants on various aspects.
