Two-day UKD 'invalid' convention begins

The two-day party convention organised by the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal faction headed by its expelled patron Kashi Singh Airy began here on Sunday with party leaders and members of the faction blaming the party chief Trivendra Singh Panwar for causing the political downfall of UKD.

Though Panwar has also been invited to the convention, he has termed this meet invalid.

Airy inaugurated the two-day party convention at a Wedding Point. Various old leaders of the party, members and office bearers from different parts of the State were among those who were seen attending the meet on its first day.

Party leaders squarely blamed Panwar for dividing the party and "causing its downfall through his autocratic attitude and actions".

The Airy faction claims that this is the 14th convention of the party even though the party chief has rejected this alleging that this is part of the actions being fuelled by the BJP and Congress to exploit dissidents to further weaken the UKD.

However at the convention on Sunday, most party leaders and members of the Airy faction blamed Panwar's actions for the downfall of the party in the State. They held him responsible for the divisions within the party alleging that those who do not toe his line are expelled from the party.

Though Panwar's term as the party chief had expired he was continuing on the post and had expelled the leaders and members who had sought election of the new party chief and party executive committee.

Stressing that it is vital to remove Panwar from UKD to save the party from further deterioration, the leaders of the Airy faction said that the election of the new party chief and executive committee will be held on Monday. This action is bound to fuel the ongoing confrontation between the two factions in the UKD.
