In an apparently well-calculated move to regain the people’s confidence and to strike fear in the lower rungs of the force with a single stroke, the State police decided to suspend two policemen who were found sleeping while on duty on Friday night. State Additional Director General of Police (law and order) Ram Singh Meena who was on the inspection on Friday night had found the two policemen sleeping at their assigned posts in Vasant Vihar police station area. Meena ordered Dehradun SSP Ajay Rautela to suspend the policemen promptly.
He said, “We have already asked the policemen to keep hawk- eyed vigil while on duty at their assigned posts. We also said stringent action would follow in case any one of the force is found lax.” The senior police officer said that in view of the increasing crime cases over the past few months in the State capital and other districts of the State, the district police heads have been directed to intensify patrolling during night, to install posts and deploy policemen there adequately. “Besides, we have decided to go for verification drive to have the identities of the residents verified. We also stressed on developing sources in the districts,” he said.
For the past few days, he himself has been making rounds at various places in the State to see for himself whether the vigilance drive is being executed the right way. On Friday, while he was on the inspection in Vasant Vihar Police station area two policemen — Tej Singh and Pradeep -were found sleeping at their assigned posts- Vasant Vihar phase- I.
