Two cops shot while chasing suspects in Laksar

Two police constables were injured when armed miscreants on motorbikes opened fire in a crowded public place in Laksar on Sunday evening. One of the injured constables has been sent to a higher centre. Meanwhile, the police erected blockades in the district and began checking for the assailants after the incident.

Constables Pancham Prakash and Rajendra Singh posted in the Kasba Chowki of Laksar Kotwali were patrolling the city on motorcycle in the evening when they saw a pistol in the hand of one of the three persons on a motorcycle. While chasing the trio, the constables overtook them on a flyover in an attempt to stop them when they were shot at. Three rounds were reportedly fired after which the constables were injured and fell. While the assailants escaped, the locals sent the injured duo to a private nursing home nearby.

Circle officer Hemendra Singh Negi and Kotwal Yashpal Singh Bisht reached the nursing home with heavy police force and enquired about the incident.  The doctors there referred injured constable Singh to a higher centre due to his serious condition while the other constable was said to be out of danger.

Negi said that the two constables were checking into an attempted attack on a trader’s home in Laksar which had occurred earlier. They had received some information about the miscreants who were on a motorcycle. These miscreants shot at the constables when they tried to stop them. The police are working to swiftly identify and arrest the accused, he added.
