Tussar silk sari from West Bengal is among the items, which are being highly appreciated by the visitors to the National Handloom Expo. It has been organised jointly by Development Commissioner (Handloom), Central Government and the Uttarakhand Handloom and Handicrafts Development Council at the Parade Ground.
A wide range of pure silk and cotton saris are attracting visitors to the West Bengal stall at the expo. According to weaver Rahul, rural weavers prepare the silk and cotton saris on handloom. Mythological tales are depicted on the Kantha and Baluchuri silk saris, which also have hand print, block print and gold thread (zari) work.
The expo officer KC Chamoli informed that apart from the silk products from West Bengal, silk items from Assam and Karnataka are also available for purchase at the expo. More than 300 weavers from Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Assam, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi are participating in the expo with their special products. Chamoli further informed that stalls selling food from Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Gujarat and other States are also being appreciated.
