Referring to the recent statement of Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat about being given a free hand, former Chief Minister Harish Rawat opined that the incumbent is a “captive Chief Minister”. Regarding the recent incursion by Chinese troops into the Barahoti area of Chamoli district in Uttarakhand, the former Chief Minister said that there were contradictory statements being issued by the State Government on this. Rawat said this while addressing a Press conference at the Congress Bhawan here on Tuesday.

Talking to the media persons here, the former Chief Minister Harish Rawat said recently during a programme of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat had talked about being given a free hand and freedom of expression. This had hinted towards his position as that of a ‘captive’ Chief Minister, he opined.

On the issue of the reported incursion by Chinese troops into the Barahoti area of Chamoli district, the former Chief Minister said that the State Government was issuing contradictory statement on such a sensitive matter. He questioned how come different statements were coming from Government officials and top leaders of the BJP in the State.

Rawat further went on to allege that the BJP Government at the Centre under Prime Minister Narendra Modi was trying to distort history. He accused the Modi Government of trying to sideline national icons like Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru while also comparing them unfairly with Deen Dayal Upadhyay. Further opining that the BJP at the centre is pursuing a communal agenda, he said that the BJP should not not talk of secularism considering that the party itself is neck deep in communal agenda. The Mahila Congress president of Uttarakhand Sarita Arya and other office bearers of the Congress party were also among those present at the Press conference.
