The tribals from various States of the country participated in a week-long training course on lED light bulbs, bamboo carved lights and solar emergency light organised by the Society of Pollution and Environmental Conservation Scientists (SPECS). Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST) Director General Rajendra Dobhal said that the main objective of the training was to make the trainees self reliant in the field of energy conservation.

The participants had come from the remote villages of Uttarakhand and other States of the country where there is acute shortage of electricity. This training will help these villagers in making provision for emergency light along with mobile charging facility. These lights can be charged through solar as well as ambient power.

Speaking on the occasion, former chief secretary RS Tolia praised the work done by the tribal trainees in the week-long programme. He also appreciated the work undertaken by UCOST and SPECS, adding that the transfer of skills to the tribals will give them an opportunity to earn their livelihood conveniently. He also stressed that the participants should not stop learning new techniques even in the near future. lED is the present and future of light, said Tolia before presenting the trainees with certificates, bamboo cutter and tool kits.

Speaking on the occasion, SPECS secretary Brij Mohan Sharma informed that 44 tribal youth from Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh had learned the science and technology of making, repairing and maintening lED light bulbs, bamboo carved lights and solar emergency light. He informed that the demand for lED is high as lED bulbs save power, have longer life span, are available in multiple colours and spread no pollution.
