The Jwalapur seat carved out of earlier Bahadrabad seat following 2008 delimitation is witnessing a triangular contest this time with the candidates of Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party and Bahujan Samaj Party being in the fray. The contest is all the more interesting with a Congress rebel Brijrani pitching in the fight as an independent on being denied ticket by Congress. Besides, resentment is prevailing in the saffron camp with the sitting party MlA Chandra Shekhar Bhattewala being made to clear space for a new face on the ground of his advanced age.
Following the delimitation, parts of the seats were merged with some rural areas and it was reserved for the Scheduled Caste.
The four contestants pitching in the battle this time are Congress nominee S P Singh Engineer, BJP's district president Suresh Rathore who lost his security deposit in the last assembly poll from Bhagawanpur constituency, BSP's Mulki Raj and the former district board chairperson Brijrani.
Observers say that Congress might pay a price for denying nomination to Brijrani who lost to Bhattewala in the previous face-off by a narrow margin of 558 votes.
The Congress candidate Engineer does not seem to have direct connect with the rural populace living under the constituency, observers say, adding that the rebel Brijrani is far ahead of him on this count, particularly given her acceptance among the women voters. Significantly, there is sizeable presence of the women voters standing at over 50,304. However, her potential to make or mar would depend on the volume of the traditional Congress votes going her way, say the political pundits.
