Tremor of an earthquake measured 7.5 on the Richter scale was felt across Uttarakhand around 2.40 pm on Monday, making the scared people rush out of the places they were in. However, no report of damage or loss of life has been received from any part of the State.

In Dehradun district, the scene was the same, the panic-stricken people rushed out as they felt the tremor that lasted for around 31 seconds. They contacted their near ones over phones as the tremor proved severe.

Police were no exception as they too scampered out of their offices, be it police headquarters or SSP office. Things were the same at Collectorate, Court, Secretariat, schools and colleges.

One of the officials, working at the Collectorate when the tremor started, said he had suddenly felt his table shaking. “It took me some seconds to understand that it was quake. I along with others rushed out in a fit of panic,” he added.

Another official said that it was just after lunch that he felt the tremor. “The first thought that shot through my scared mind was to enquire how my family was. I called them up over Whatsapp,” he recounted.

Nidhi aged around 22 said that she had felt the tremor when she was about to leave for office. “I felt the door shaking hard. I rushed out and got into an open space. My survival instinct prodded me to do so,” she added.

Abhishek, resident of Raipur, aged 12 said that he had felt his bed shaking when he was resting after he came back from school. “My mom screamed and asked me to come out as the tremor was from earthquake,” he said.
