Trees uprooted in storm disrupt power supply in Dehradun

Published on:

Storm accompanied with rain on Monday evening threw normal life out of gear in Dehradun. Uprooted trees led to power failure in many areas of the city. Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited (UPCl) spokesperson Madhusudan Issar said that following the storm, electricity lines snapped as trees uprooted by the storm fell on the electricity poles. People of several areas reeled under severe spells of power outages for around three hours from 4 pm to 7pm on Monday evening.

According to the UPCl officials, power was restored after the faults were fixed. Among the areas worst hit by the power-cuts were  Raipur, Shivlok Colony, Rajpur, EC Road, Badripur, Salawala and Ballupur. However, power supply remained erratic in most of these areas long after the lines were claimed to have been repaired.

Sumitra, Rajpur resident, said that power went off whenever a storm lashed out at Dehradun. “This reflects badly on the city. Measures should be taken so as to ensure that power supply does not snap even during a storm,” she said.
