Transport workers on strike demanding salary hike

Published on:

Members of the Dehradun  wing of Uttarakhand Transport Corporation went on a strike on Monday with several demands, including a hike in the salary of the transport  employees. Dwelling on the demands, the president of the district wing of the union, Ravi Nandan Kumar said that their primary demand is an increase in the monthly salary of all workers, particularly of the outsourcing workers, drivers and operators.“ They must be given a monthly salary of Rs 18,000. They are now being paid a paltry Rs 10,000 which is not sufficient for them even for bare survival in the present conditions when the prices of all commodities are sky rocketing.

Besides, the regular workers would be paid their arrears pending since January 2016.  Further, by  seventh of every month, salary should be paid to  the employees and vacancies of the officers and workers in  the corporation should be filled,” he said.

He further said that the outsourcing workers doing overtime for 20/22 days  of a month should be paid extra. “Another important demand of our union is that the private  busses running around the transport corporation stand in Dehradun should be stopped from plying and the fleet of the  transport corporation should be increased to at least two thousands,” he said, adding that in case their demands are  not met soon they would launch a full-blown stir.
