Transparent governance major success: Bhatt

Published on:

lauding the initiatives taken by the Narendra Modi Government over three years since it assumed charge, Bharatiya Janata Party, Uttarakhand president Ajay Bhatt said that providing a transparent governance to the nation unstained by corruption is one of the most important achievements of the Narendra Modi Government in its three- year tenure. “It has shown to the world that the Indian Government is capable of doing anything by using its own resources. Now, the nation is moving towards GST regime thanks to the consistent effort of the Prime Minister,” he said.

He was addressing a Press conference in Dehradun on Friday to mark the completion of the three-year tenure of the Narendra Modi Government.

Comparing the functioning of the Congress-helmed UPA regime between 2004-14 and that of the present NDA Government under Narendra Modi, the State BJP chief said that the glaring contrast lies in the fact that while the previous regime was embroiled in slew of scams the present one remains un-smeared with the graft tag. “It is not a little achievement that no scam has surfaced linking any one of the Cabinet Ministers during the first three years. Despite the Opposition roaming around with magnifying glasses to detect a whiff of scams they have failed to stumble on a single one during these three years,” he said.

He attributed this feat to the absolute command the Prime Minister has over the ministry. “The people are happy that Modi is taking immense pains to bring developmental succour to the common people and this is being reflected in the successive victories of BJP in the string of elections held in the States,” Bhatt said.

He said that the demonetisation and crackdown on the Benami property have instilled fear in the minds of the corruption engaged in minting money while dodging taxes. “Instead of the scams, the people are now reading about continuous raids being made by the IT and Enforcement Directorate sleuths,” he said, adding that more is in the offing with two years still left for the completion of this Government’s tenure.

He took a dig at the Opposition, saying that they are crying foul of bold steps taken by the Government in the forms of demonetisation and  surgical strikes against the terror camps operating in Pak-Occupied Kashmir.

Speaking volume of the GST regime which would be operational in July this year, he said that it would help the people get every item at a uniform price across the country. “Besides, it would end the hassles spawned by what is known as red-tapism. Transportation of the goods is now being delayed now thanks to  red- tapism. Once GST is operational the transportation time would be slashed drastically. The people would be relieved as they would have to pay  GST alone and need not worry about the State transition tax (STT) and the like,” he said.

He also spoke of the Centre’s initiative to distribute free lPG cylinders among the BPl category families under Ujjwala scheme. “Besides, what the Centre is doing for Uttarakhand is laudable too. `12,000 crore all weather road project and the clearing funds for the Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail link project might be cited. These two projects once completed would bring phenomenal change in the life of the state in the coming days. Many more projects are in  the pipeline. Just wait and you would see more coming to the State to transform the state developmentally,” Bhatt said.
