Transfers of doctors to increase patient load

Published on:

The patient load on already stressed doctors of Doon hospital here is slated to increase because Principal Medical Superintendent (PMS), Dr RS Aswal relieved six doctors from the hospital on Wednesday.

The medical health and family welfare department has recently done the departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) for promotion of 108 Senior Medical Officers (SMO) to the post of Joint Directors.

In Doon hospital 11 doctors were promoted out of these 4 doctors managed to get promotion in Doon hospital itself while seven others were transferred. On Wednesday the hospital administration received the transfer orders of Dr Yatindra Singh (radiologist), Dr Manoj Upreti (Radiologist), Dr Jyoti Pathak (pediatrician), Dr Manu Jain (anesthetist), Dr R C S Rawat (Surgeon), Dr Mahesh Bhatt (Surgeon) and Dr Sushma Joshi (pathologist).

One of these doctors, Dr Sushma Gupta who was transferred to District Hospital Uttarkashi, has refused to take the promotion in to the rank of Joint Director hence she will stay back at Doon hospital. The PMS, Dr Aswal relieved five doctors on Wednesday and sent the case of Dr Sushma Joshi for guidance to the medical and health directorate.

Doon hospital is the biggest hospital of State with more than 2500 new patients visiting its various OPDs daily on an average. It caters large number of patients from the state as well as from many districts from the neighbouring states. The transfer of these doctors is bound to put pressure on the existing doctors who regularly complain of high patient load. The PMS Dr Aswal told The Pioneer that the hospital would work with the resources it is provided.
