Jan Sangarsh Morcha slammed the State Government for having decided to transfer subsidy into the accounts of the APl card holders while doing away with the system of providing them with food grains under public distribution system. The outfit’s president Raghunath Singh Negi who is also a former UJVNl president said on Saturday that the decision signified lack of experience of the present Government. “Previously, they were provided ration through the PDS at subsidized prices. Now, money is being transferred to their accounts. The sum being transferred is small, given the present market prices of the food grains. Things would be particularly grim for the farmers. Besides, those who run the PDS shops would be rendered unemployed,” he said.
He further said that the farmers would be affected as the new system would end the previous one of the Government buying food grains like rice, wheat and cereals from the growers. “If the government refrains from buying them from the farmers the latter would be forced to sell them to the traders at cheaper rates. While the traders would earn huge profit by selling them in the markets at much higher prices the farmers would be the losers,” Negi said. He appealed to the Governor to intervene in the interests of the farmers, the poor and the PDS shop owners.
