Training of ‘GST Mitras’ organised

A four day training for the GST Mitra of the Kumaon region culminated at Pant Nagar in Udham Singh Nagar district on Saturday. In the training, 100 GST Mitra participated and learned intricacies of GST. The training was inaugurated by Additional Commissioner Rudrapur Zone, Anil Singh.

In the first phase of training held in Dehradun from July 22 to 30, the department had trained 150 GST Mitras of Garhwal region. The State Tax department has trained 250 youngsters as GST Mitra this year.

With an objective of facilitating small and marginal registered tax payers under GST regime and provide employment opportunities the concept of GST Mitras was envisaged by Uttarakhand Government.

“The approach is to train and develop the skills of unemployed and keen youth who have the eligibility to become a GSTP and are willing to earn their livelihood. This “out of the box thinking” approach fulfilled the objective of smooth transition from VAT to GST and now it is there to seek maximum return filing in GST regime as most of the existing taxpayers was dependent on advocates and CAs for their return filing.

The outcome of this concept is yet to be analysed but this is a welcome step in a State where maximum registered taxpayers are having low turnover and aren't able to perform online compliance of GST,’’ said one of a senior officer of the state tax department.

It is pertinent to mention here that during his visit to Dehradun, former Union Revenue Secretary, Hasmukh Adhiya had appreciated this unique scheme and asked to share vision document with secretariat of GST Council.
