A 28- year- old woman was rescued by Haridwar police who was allegedly brought from West Bengal and sold for `40,000 by a Delhi-based woman pimp in Roorkee. Police detained the alleged pimp and another person on the charge of human trafficking and a case was registered against it under section 366 and 370 of Indian Penal code. As the girl was found unable either to speak or understand Hindi, a translator was hired by the Roorkee police to investigate the matter, police sources said.

Station house officer, Gangnehar police station Chandra Bhan Singh said, “Primary investigation revealed that the girl was brought to Roorkee on the promise of being married off by a Delhi- based woman pimp from Midnapore district of West Bengal identified as Jyotsna.
