Traffic plan to welcome tourists to Queen of Hills

Mercury soaring high in neighbouring plain districts and other parts of the country, Dehradun is drawing hordes of tourists whose destinations are the queen of hills Mussoorie and also Dhanaulti. In  view of the throngs of tourists coming now, the administration has drafted traffic plan to keep the traffic movement free from congestion.

Mussoorie-landour and Dhantaulti remain the craze as they are heading towards these famed hill stations to enjoy the coolness.  Schools being closed to spare the children the summer-induced suffering, they are found accompanying their parents up to the hill stations. Trains, buses and other vehicles are packed to their capacities.

In Dehradun, the administration has decided to enforce one- way traffic system in Mussoorie on Saturday and Sunday. As per plan, the vehicles going towards Mussoorie would go there via Hathipao. While returning to Dehradun, they would follow the Mussoorie route, said SP Traffic DS Gunjyal on Thursday. This decision has been taken in view of the tourists and the locals grappling with huge traffic jams.  “Things would worsen as the visitors would go there on week –end trips unless we take some corrective steps,”   he added.

He said that the vehicles going to library Chowk, Mall Road and Kempty Falls in Mussoorie from Dehradun would follow the Mussoorie Road (Gajji Band). They would turn left for Hathipao and then would reach Kala School before heading towards Mussoorie.

However, all the vehicles plying on Char Dham Yatra routes would be allowed to go directly to Mussoorie. Big buses going towards Kempty Falls would be stopped at Kingreg. local buses or taxi would be allowed to go to Kempty Falls. Vehicles going towards Picture Palace, JP Band and Dhanaulti from Dehradun would go via Kingreg. Policemen have been deployed at important places to facilitate the people to complete their journey, glitch free.
