The incessant rain lashing Dehradun since the morning threw the traffic system out of gear on Wednesday with the important roads seeing huge snarls throughout the day. Police sources said that the people choosing to commute in four- wheelers was the principal reason behind the huge traffic pileup the city roads saw on the rain-drenched day. “Those who usually took the two-wheelers to commute chose to travel in the four-wheelers on Wednesday to avoid being drenched. Seeing the roads choked with traffic, the police top brass hit the roads to resolve the snarls,” said a senior police official.
However, the commuters who suffered the ordeal on the roads said that even the presence of the police top brass on the roads failed to mitigate things even a bit.
Ramesh, resident of Jakhan, said, “Such rains during summer being normal and expected, the traffic police should have been prepared to take on the traffic congestion the inclement weather spawns. Bringing the senior cops out on the roads when the roads are choked does not come to any avail.”
