The people of Dehradun faced harrowing time on the roads of the city on Tuesday as traffic went haywire due the restrictions imposed by the administration during the visit of BJP President Amit Shah. The National President of the BJP was accorded a mega welcome in the provisional state capital by overzealous State BJP leaders. On the entire route from the Dehradun airport to Madhuban hotel the BJP president was accorded welcome by the BJP workers at many places.
The onslaught on general public began early morning even before Shah landed in the city. The school children became the victim of the traffic mismanagement in the morning. Shockingly one lane of the Rispana Bridge on Haridwar road was blocked for the programme which BJP organised to felicitate Shah. It resulted in an early morning chaos at Rispana Bridge. “I am stuck up here from last 20 minutes with my children. I would now have to request the school administration to let my children in. I don’t know why administration has allowed the BJP workers to occupy one portion of the Rispana Bridge which caters a heavy traffic load,’’ said Naresh Kumar, a resident of Defence Colony while stuck up in traffic. Two ambulances were also stuck up in the traffic jam at the same time. Interestingly many policemen were present on the spot as they were on VVIP duty but they did not care to regulate the traffic. The traffic was regulated only when the traffic police personnel arrived on the spot.
