Holi festival approaching, the traffic directorate Uttarakhand has released a video meant to awake the people to the danger of drunk driving as accidents occur around the time of the festival due to the people behind the wheels remaining drunk.
Traffic directorate director DIG Kewal Khurana said on Friday that as per the statistics, the principal cause behind the road accidents during the Holi festival is drunk driving. “We are witnessing for years that those behind the wheels violate traffic rules while being drunk. This not just poses danger to them and others travelling in such cars but to others, including the pedestrians.
We have released the video to ensure that the festival of colour passes off sans any casualty due to drunk driving-triggered accidents,” he said. It must be written here that drunken driving has taken a number of life and this happens mainly during festivals, especially Holi.
He further said that the state DGP Anil K Raturi has watched the video and approved it too. “Now it would be circulated over the social networking sites and it would be screened too at the cinemas and the commercial complexes in the city to warn the people against inviting danger to them and others through drunk driving. The video has been uploaded too on the traffic directorate’s facebook page as well as the same of Uttarakhand police and Dehradun police.Besides, police officers based in other districts would also be directed to upload the video on their respective facebook pages,” he said, adding that the people are requested to share it with their near ones to ensure that the celebration of the festival remains an occasion of joy and not of tears.
