A day after the traffic inspector Rajeev Rawat was caught on a camera while receiving bribe from the driver of a truck belonging to PWD loaded with minerals, he was reverted to police line by way of punitive action on Friday. SSP Sadanand Date said that the action followed the video clips being thoroughly checked.
Notably, inspector Rajeev Rawat was transferred to traffic police from PAC around 15 days ago. He was made zonal checking officer a day before Eid-Ul-Zuha.
Though assigned at other places, he allegedly went to Shimla Bypass and began checking trucks loaded with mining materials on late Thursday night. As per the report, he allegedly stopped a truck belonging to PWD for checking. A contractor from PWD arrived after the truck driver had informed him.
The contractor had made a video clip of the traffic inspector receiving money from the truck driver. After the video went viral, SSP handed over the video clip to SP Traffic for investigation. Subsequently, the errant officer was reverted to police line based on the report submitted by traffic police.
