The traffic on the Chamba-Rishikesh Highway was stalled for about two hours after a collision between a police truck and a truck of the Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam limited (UJVNl). The trucks collided near Than village causing serious injuries to both the truck drivers.
On Wednesday afternoon, an Uttarkashi Police truck being driven towards Rishikesh hit an UJVNl Chinyalisaud truck coming from the opposite direction. Following the collision, a leg of UJVNl truck driver Puran Singh Khanka got stuck in the steering wheel of the vehicle. The Chamba Police and GVK EMRI 108 ambulance reached the accident site on receiving information about the mishap. However, they were initially able to do little with the driver’s leg stuck in the steering wheel.
The personnel worked hard for about an hour using a jack and other equipment and finally succeeded in freeing the leg of the truck driver and extracted him from the vehicle. Police rushed him to a private hospital in Chamba. The police truck driver Kunwar Singh Rana also sustained serious injuries. He was taken to the district hospital at Bauradi by the GVK EMRI 108 ambulance. The traffic on the Chamba-Rishikesh was hampered for two hours due to the trucks involved in the accident lying on the road. According the Chamba Police Station officer Devendra Chauhan, the cause of the accident is being inquired into.
