The traditional dishes of Uttarakhand like Mandua (finger millet) rotis, Bhatt daal (black soyabean) and Jhangora (barnyard millet) kheer will be served to the patients and their attendants on the recommendation of the doctors in all the Government-run hospitals across Uttarakhand.

Talking to The Pioneer, principal secretary Health Omprakash said the Chief Minister Harish Rawat stresses on how to provide financial security to the farmers and create employment opportunity as well. The scheme would go a long way in improving things in tune with his vision.

State health department has issued instruction to the hospitals to provide locally available nutritious food to the patients and their attendants in the Government-run hospitals.

Now onwards, the hospitals will serve food to the patients as per the doctor’s advice. But care must be taken to ensure that the food to be provided is fairly nutritious.

The department has instructed the hospitals to procure such items from the small and medium scale industries. This is in sync with what the Chief Minister wants — to give fillip to these industries to flourish. Principal Secretary has issued the pertinent notification on the matter.

As per the order, the State-run hospitals will have to provide at least two meals a day to the patients and they must be collected from the localities. Agriculture department must be taken on board as far as the supply of such items is concerned, it is stressed.
