Traders seek to buy power from Open Access System

Vexed with unscheduled load-shedding continuing for hours, the industrialists have urged the State Government to grant them permission for purchasing electricity from the Open Access System.

Industries keep suffering badly due to unscheduled load- shedding dragging on for about six hours daily across the state. More so, low voltage is adding to the woes of the industry sector, said the members of the Kumaon Garhwal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KGCCI). But the Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited (UPCl) is not allowing them to purchase power from the Open Access System, they are understood to have alleged.

Therefore, to meet the electricity demand of the industry sector, we have urged the State Government to grant us permission for purchasing power from the Open Access System, added the members of the KGCCI. More so, we have already taken up this matter with the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, urging him to ensure smooth supply of electricity to the industries in the state, maintained the industrialists from the KGCCI.Notably, the unscheduled power cuts have had an adverse impact on the industrial production in the State.

Besides, damage being caused to the sensitive equipments of industrial units in the state due to low voltage is no less concerning for us, the industrialists regretted. Therefore, we are urging the State Government to address the concerns of the industrialists as early as possible. Mention worthy, according to the figures provided by the UPCl, whereas gross availability of power in Uttarakhand presently is around 35.44 million unit (mu) per day i.e. about 17.16 mu per day from domestic sources, about 16.35 mu per day from Central pool and the rest about 1.93 mu per day from other sources, the demand for power has gone up to 35.57 mu per day in the hill State.
