Traders penalised after DM finds choked drains in Mandi

Finding choked drains at Niranjanpur Mandi during an inspection on Saturday, the district magistrate Ashish Kumar Srivastava directed the Mandi secretary to issue show cause notice to the 12 traders near whose shops the drains were found to be choked and litter was seen. If the traders are unable to provide a satisfactory reply, process should be initiated to cancel their licenses, the DM directed.

In pursuance of the DM’s order, show cause notices were served to the 12 traders. In addition to this, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) imposed a penalty of Rs 5,000 each per shop and also seized the water drums kept in the 12 shops. Issuing a warning, the district magistrate stressed that action will be taken under the provisions of the Epidemic Diseases Act and Disaster Management Act against the trader concerned if litter or stagnant water is found near the shop.

It is pertinent to mention here that in addition to ensuring measures for prevention of Covid-19, the authorities in Dehradun are also focusing on ensuring mitigation of dengue.

The MCD has also initiated a campaign to address factors that lead to dengue while the district administration has also introduced Gambusia fish in various water bodies to eradicate mosquito larvae.

Earlier, Srivastava visited the Asharodi checkpost on the outskirts of Dehradun along with other officials.

He directed the officials concerned to ensure that the standard operating procedure (SOP) set by the State Government is followed to the letter. The natives coming from other states should be allowed to enter the district only after checking all of their valid health related documents. Random testing should be conducted compulsorily on suspect cases in case any person displays Covid related symptoms while entering the district, stressed  DM.
