Heavy loss in share market forced a ceramic tiles businessmen and his friend to hatch a plan to make quick money by threatening two Dehradun residents by posing as members of dreaded Amit Bhura gang. The duo, however, failed in their attempt of extortion and was arrested by a team of Dehradun Police.

The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Dehradun Pushpak Jyoti told newsmen at his office that Cantonment resident dentist Dr Niraj Shrama and Mehuwala Patel Nagar resident Shambhu Prasad received threatening phone calls and letters in which a demand of Rs2 crore was made by the culprits.

Shambu Prasad informed police that a phone call was made on March 26 in which the extortionists had threatened to kill his son if he reveals it to someone. Shocked by the audacity of the extortionists and stark similarity in two cases, the SSP constituted a team consisting SOG and Patel Nagar police.

The police team was informed by Shambhu Prasad that the extortionists called at his phone on March 28 for the place at which he should come with the demanded money. Prasad was told by the culprits to reach Telwala chowk near tea estate and look for a grey coloured Indigo vehicle to deposit the money.

On the information the Police team laid a trap around the area and nabbed the culprits on Badowala road in Tea estate. SSP said that one of the culprits Vijay Kumar is a ceramic tile dealer and he told the Police that he burrowed Rs1 crore from market and invested it in share market where he faced losses. Kumar said that he was under immense pressure to return the burrowed money.

He said that he contacted Mehuwala resident Bhupendra Kumar and hatched a plan to demand money from Shambu Prasad and Dr Niraj Sharma. Vijay Kumar knew Shambhu Prasad as he belonged to his village and Dr Sharma's clinic was near to a shop where he used to send supplies. The duo has accepted their involvement in the crime and the police have recovered mobile phones and Indigo vehicle involved in the crime. The police team was headed by SOG incharge Sub Inspector (SI) Ravindra Yadav and SI N S Bisht of Patel Nagar police station.
