Top two teachers' groups at loggerheads

Prathmik Shikshak Sangh (PSS) and Rajkeeya Shikshak Sangh (RSS) the biggest organisations of Government school teachers are at loggerheads on the issue of removal of Cluster Resource Coordinators (CRC) and Block Resource Coordinators (BRC) of Haridwar district.

After an extensive inspection of the schools of the Haridwar district last week the Director General (DG) school education D Senthil Pandian had taken an unprecedented action of removing all 72 BRC and CRC of the district. All these officers were asked by the department to go back to their respective schools from where they were working on deputation. The action of DG evoked strong protest from the PSS as it termed it amounting to harassment.

Interestingly the DG got unexpected support from RSS which is the organisation of lecturers and lecturer Teachers (lTs) of government schools. This organisation supported the action of the department and demanded that similar action should be taken against other CRC and BRC working in other districts.

The President of RSS, Ram Singh Chauhan told The Pioneer that the department should appoint the newly recruited candidates in these important posts.

It is worth mentioning here that the education department created a separate cadre of CRC and BRC and rechristened them as Block Resource Person (BRP) and Cluster Resource Person (CRP). The decision of the department met severe resistance from the serving CRC and BRC as most of them are from Primary and Upper Primary Schools and hold important positions in the PSS.  On the pressure created by the PSS the department dithered in removing these CRC and BRC.

Incidentally the other organisation the RSS demanded that department should appoint the BRP and CRP selected after the examination instead of these BRC and CRC. The step of RSS is understandable as most of the candidates selected in the competitive examination are lTs and lecturers.

The General Secretary of PSS, Digvijay Singh Chauhan told The Pioneer that the organisation would not tolerate the harassment of teachers. He said that if the department wanted that the CRC and BRC should be sent back to their original schools then it should be done by issuing a proper order and not in a way like done in Haridwar where the efficiency of all of them was put under question mark. Chauhan said that there are 350 serving CRC and BRC which were appointed by a proper selection process and the PSS would oppose if they are removed from their position. He informed that the PSS has convened a meeting of the state body at Dehradun on October 10 to discuss the issue.
