With Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav making a ‘promise’ to visit Uttarakhand in first week of November during the Samajwadi Party’s National Executive meet concluded in Agra on Thursday, it is now clear that the Hilly State has suddenly become important for the party where it expects victory on at least two seats.

Yadav is likely to visit the State in first week of November. Before that, SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav may also spare time to visit the State in October. Visit of the two top leaders is politically significant as it will set new political equations in the State.

Insiders said that the visit would be a sort of starting of the campaign for the forthcoming general election. Both the leaders are likely to meet the ground level party workers in order to seek their suggestions to strengthen the party’s position. At the same time, they would also gather inputs on where the party can do well.

The visit is also aimed at pacifying the leaders and workers who expressed anguished over the decision to shift the venue of the National Executive meet, which took place at Agra in place of Haridwar. The senior leaders will woo the leaders and would also listen to the party workers and would address their grievances.

They would also call upon the workers to start working to strengthen the party in the State and take special efforts where party can do well during the general elections. The party leaders would also make formal announcement about contesting on all five parliamentary seats.

SP Uttarakhand president Satyanarayan Sachan confirmed the visit of the two leaders. “Akhilesh Yadav is likely to visit the State in the first week of November. But before that Mulayam Singh may also make a visit,” he said.Sachan added that Akhilesh told twice that he would visit the State. The SP has already announced candidates for four parliamentary constituencies, including Haridwar, Tehri, Garhwal and Almora but is yet to declare the candidate for Nainital seat. During the visit, the party leader may disclose the name of the candidate.

A source in the party said that State unit SP leaders carried out an internal survey and found the condition favourable for the party. During their visit, the leaders spoke one by one to the locals and tried to have an idea about their mood.  The leaders claimed that that the equations, on at least two seats, are in favour of the party.
