Tigress dies after train-hit in Terai West

Published on:

A tigress was found dead after being hit by a train in the Terai West forest division on Friday. Though her post mortem has not revealed anything suspicious, the department is planning to write to the divisional rail manager to inform him that neither the locomotive driver nor the train guard had informed the authorities about the incident as required by the regulations.

According to department sources, a gram pradhan informed the department about the body of a tiger lying besides the railway track between Kashipur and Ramnagar on Friday morning. Her age is estimated to be about eight years. Though the tigress was fatally hit by a train, the department is also inquiring to see if she was killed by a person before being dumped on the track. “I have asked the Terai west divisional forest officer to write to the divisional rail manager stating that as per regulations, the locomotive driver or the train guard should have informed the station master about the national animal being hit by the train,” chief conservator of forests, Kumaon circle, Param Jit Singh said.
