The proposal raised by the State Urban Development Minister a year ago for the construction of overbridge on Tibdi crossing to tackle the monsoon traffic snarls is yet to see the light of the day. With the ongoing construction work on BHEl underbridge, just a short distance away from Tibdi area, whole of the SIIDCUl traffic going towards Haridwar is being diverted through Tibdi crossing.
A year ago on July 8, the people of Haridwar industrial area had complained to the Minister regarding traffic snarls during monsoon season and weekends. The Urban Development Minister had agreed and conducted a site inspection assuring that the project proposal to be sent soon.
Briefing the Minister about the problems faced by the people of Haridwar Industrial area, president of Haridwar Industrial Development Association Prabhat Kumar had pointed out that on an average 40 trains go past the railway crossing near Tibdi on a daily basis.
For most of the times due to the closing of the crossing, there is traffic jam on both the sides which extends upto three kilometres near Rishikul area. To add to the woes of commuters, during the rainy season the underbridge at Bhagat Singh Chowk gets submerged and whole of traffic is diverted from this Tibdi crossing.
The only solution to escape such situations on railway crossing is to make an over-bridge. Whole of the traffic from Shivalik Nagar, SIIDCUl, Roshanabad and Bilwakeshwar Colony passes through this route which faces the trouble.
Speaking to The Pioneer, Urban Development Minister Madan Kaushik said, “The detailed project report is under process.
The local residents and the industrialists are facing problems due to long traffic jams. I have inspected the site. We hope to get the budget soon.” Notably even the city Mayor’s office is located on the same route but the plight of the local residents continues with lackdiasical attitude of Ministers.
A local manufacturer from Haridwar industrial area said that the industrialists were planning to raise the matter in mini conclave to be organised by Ministry of Industries in SIIDCUl on 14 July.
